TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR USE OF GO TRANSIT STUDENT RATES

This page states the terms and conditions (the “Terms”) which apply to your use of reduced student rates while travelling on the GO Transit system. Please read these Terms carefully. By using a PRESTO fare card with a student concession, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agree to abide by and comply without limitation or qualification, to these Terms. If you do not agree with any of these Terms, please do not use the student concession.

  1. Definitions:

Student” means a person living in an area served by a transit system who is:

  1. thirteen (13) years of age or more but not yet twenty (20) years of age and in full daytime attendance at a public or private elementary or secondary school; or
  2. In full attendance for a minimum period of eight consecutive weeks and not earning a salary from full-time employment while attending:
  1. a post-secondary educational institution; or
  2. a post-secondary vocational institution that is either public or registered under the Private Career Colleges Act. 2005 S.0. 2005, Chapter 28.

GO Transit Student ID” means an identification issued by Metrolinx, a Crown Agency within the meaning of the Crown Agency Act, R.S.O. 1990, that authorizes the holder to travel at a reduced student rate on the GO Transit system, subject to these Terms, provided they are in possession of a valid GO Transit Student ID. The GO Transit Student ID is embedded in a QR code format and will be emailed to all approved Students. A QR code consists of black modules or square dots containing alpha numeric information about the Student arranged in a square grid on a white background, which can be read by an imaging device.

  1. Students are required to complete an online application available at www.gotransit.com (the “Application”).
  2. You hereby agree that in the event any of the information provided by you in the Application changes, including your email address, you will promptly notify GO Transit, a division of Metrolinx, by email to studentid@gotransit.com or by phone (416) 869-3600 ext 7272.
  3. You may be asked by an authorized GO Transit officer to show your GO Transit Student ID. Upon being so requested, you must produce your GO Transit Student ID to the authorized GO Transit officer. Therefore, you must carry your GO Transit Student ID (in electronic or paper format) at all times while travelling on the GO Transit system in order for your ticket to be valid.
  4. The GO Transit Student ID remains the property of Metrolinx and must not be altered, recreated or changed. The GO Transit Student ID is subject to confiscation if the holder fails to follow these Terms.
  5. The GO Transit Student ID is not transferable and shall not be used by anyone other than the person named in the Application to which the GO Transit Student ID is associated with.
  6. You are required to register your PRESTO card at any GO Transit Station prior to using the student fare. The student concession must be added to the PRESTO card each school year at any GO Transit location.
  7. If you leave the educational institution during any part of the academic year or cease to meet the definition of “Student” you will cease to be eligible for the Student fare discount. Therefore, you agree that you will remove the student concession on your PRESTO card.
  8. GO Transit reserves the right to cancel the GO Transit Student ID and any associated fare media should you willfully cause damage to property owned by Metrolinx or any of its operators, or create an inconvenience to the public. The GO Transit Student ID is also subject to cancellation if you fail to follow these Terms. If the GO Transit Student ID is cancelled by Metrolinx an email will be sent to your email address on file advising of said cancellation. Upon receiving a cancellation notice, you agree that you will remove the student concession on your PRESTO card.
  9. The GO Transit Student ID expires on the date specified therein. A new application must be submitted annually.
  10. All notices which GO Transit shall be required to provide to you shall be in writing and delivered by email to your email address on file.
  11. GO Transit reserves the right to change, modify, alter or otherwise update these Terms at any time, including any rights or obligations you or GO Transit may have. GO Transit will post the amended Terms on its website at www.gotransit.com. Please check the website periodically for changes. As permitted by applicable law, any amendment will become effective at the time GO Transit posts the amended agreement on its website. Unless GO Transit states otherwise, the amendment will apply to your future and existing use of the GO Transit Student ID. You are deemed to accept the amendments if (1) you do not notify GO Transit to the contrary in writing within twenty (20) days of the date the amended terms are posted, or (2) you use GO Transit’s student rate after such period. If you do not accept the amendments, upon written request, your GO Transit Student ID will be cancelled.
  12. These Terms shall be governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada applicable therein without regard to any conflict of laws provisions, and any disputes arising under or relating to these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in the Province of Ontario.
